About the Opportunity
Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine is offering an Instrumentation Mechanician Learnership (LED) designed for individuals interested in building a career in the mining and engineering sector. This programme combines structured classroom training with practical, on-site experience over a 3-year period, leading to an Artisan qualification at NQF Level 3–4.
In accordance with its Employment Equity Policy, preference will be given to historically disadvantaged South Africans as part of the mine’s commitment to transformation and development.
Purpose of the Learnership
The objective of this programme is to:
• Provide learners with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on workplace experience.
• Support learners in completing the Artisan qualification aligned with national standards.
• Develop skilled instrumentation mechanicians for the mining industry.
• Ensure the success of the apprenticeship by combining “on-the-job” and “off-the-job” training.
Key Responsibilities
Participants in the programme will be expected to:
• Comply with the Learning Agreement and all legal training requirements.
• Proactively learn and understand the principles of instrumentation and control systems.
• Apply technical knowledge in both classroom and practical environments.
• Demonstrate competence as per apprenticeship milestones over the 3-year term.
• Take responsibility for their training progress by asking questions and seeking feedback.
• Develop the skills necessary to meet industry productivity and safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following:
• Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Natural Science, or
• N2 Certificate with four trade-specific subjects related to Instrumentation
Required Skills
• Good communication skills in English
• Basic technical knowledge or interest in instrumentation
• Ability to follow instructions and technical diagrams
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn in a mining environment
• Safety-conscious and detail-oriented
Remuneration
A market-related stipend will be provided for the duration of the learnership.
