Overview
Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is inviting applications for its Artisan Learnership Programme 2026. This programme is designed for ambitious individuals who want to build a successful career in engineering and mining while gaining practical workplace experience in one of South Africa’s most technologically advanced mining operations.
Situated near Mokopane in Limpopo, Ivanplats is developing a world-class platinum group metals mine using modern mechanised underground mining methods. The learnership combines structured technical training, mentorship, and hands-on workplace experience to prepare learners for artisan trade qualifications.
Available Learnership Disciplines
Successful applicants may be placed in one of the following artisan trades:
- Auto Electrician
- Boilermaker
- Diesel Mechanic
- Fitter & Turner
- Instrumentation
- Mechanical Fitter
- Millwright
- Rigger
Learners will receive both theoretical and practical training aligned with industry standards and operational requirements.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.
- Mathematics and Physical Science passed with a minimum of 60%.
- N2 Engineering qualification.
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Willingness to work both underground and on surface operations.
- Must be medically fit for mining duties.
- Must be willing to undergo the relevant capability assessment.
Learnership Duration and Conditions
- The learnership will run for a maximum period of three (3) years or until a recognised trade qualification is achieved, whichever comes first.
- Learners must be prepared to work in both underground and surface mining operations where applicable.
- Successful applicants must pass the required medical fitness examination and any pre-employment assessments.
