About the Opportunity
Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine is offering a Rigger Learnership (LED) for external applicants interested in pursuing a technical career within the mining industry. This 3-year structured programme provides both theoretical and practical training, leading to an Artisan qualification at NQF Level 3–4.
As part of its transformation strategy, the mine gives preference to historically disadvantaged South Africans, in line with its Employment Equity Policy and affirmative action principles.
Purpose of the Learnership
The goal of this learnership is to:
• Provide learners with institutional learning and hands-on work experience.
• Equip learners with the skills to qualify as Artisans.
• Support participants with the tools and guidance needed to complete both on-the-job and off-the-job training.
• Develop a skilled talent pipeline aligned with the needs of Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the programme, learners are expected to:
• Follow the terms and conditions set out in the Learning Agreement.
• Take initiative in learning and understanding the trade of rigging.
• Apply knowledge gained in classroom sessions to practical tasks on site.
• Ask questions and actively participate in their training journey.
• Demonstrate competency over the full 3-year programme duration.
• Maintain high standards of safety, accuracy, and performance in the workplace.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants must have:
• Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Natural Science, or
• N2 Certificate with four trade-specific subjects
Required Skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in English
• Physically fit and capable of working in a mining environment
• A strong interest in mechanical operations and lifting equipment
• Good teamwork and problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to follow safety protocols and industry standards
Remuneration
This learnership offers a market-related stipend for the duration of the programme.
