Job Purpose
Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the Workshop Assistant (Electrical) will support artisans and supervisors with the maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical equipment. The role ensures the efficient operation of electrical systems to maintain continuous and reliable water supply to customers.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 or N3 Certificate
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Artisan Assistant in an electrical workshop environment
• Valid Code B driver’s licence
• Ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 driving test
Key Responsibilities
• Assist artisans with electrical maintenance and minor electrical installations
• Manage and control electrical workshop stores
• Trace and locate faulty cables using visual inspection and electrical testers
• Install new cables, including trench digging, cable strapping, and cable rack installations
• Build scaffolding and replace faulty electrical plugs
• Top up batteries and liquid starters with distilled water
• Clean, wash, and paint electrical motors
• Repair damaged electrical equipment such as geysers, stoves, heaters, and cookers
• Collect spare parts and equipment from suppliers
• Work in accordance with the job card system
• Ensure all planned work is completed within critical deadlines
