About the Role
Weir Minerals is offering an exciting Apprentice opportunity for aspiring Fitters & Turners in Johannesburg. The role focuses on learning how to machine, assemble, and maintain mechanical components using precision tools and engineering drawings. The successful candidate will gain the skills needed to become a qualified Fitter and Turner tradesperson.

Key Responsibilities
• Safety First: Uphold 100% commitment to zero harm and world-class safety culture.
• Operations: Gain practical knowledge of plant machinery, operations, and maintenance processes.
• Technical Development:
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Identify machining symbols, tolerances, and instructions.
• Perform operations such as turning, facing, threading, boring, and tapering on metals and alloys.
• Operate manual machines (lathes, milling, and drilling machines).
• Use measuring instruments — micrometers, verniers, telescopic gauges, thread and bore gauges.
• Fit and align mechanical components (shafts, bearings, couplings).
• Perform hydraulic and pneumatic fittings.
• Training: Successfully complete the 3–4 year apprenticeship program in accordance with company and SETA requirements.
• Compliance: Adhere to Weir’s Duty of Care Policy and safety standards.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
• N2 or higher in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting & Turning).
• N5/N6 qualification in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage.
