Purpose of the Job
The Mechanical Artisan Assistant (Properties) is responsible for supporting the mechanical artisan in performing maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facilities, machinery, and equipment. This role ensures that all work aligns with statutory and regulatory standards to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
• Assist artisans in performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, and mechanical inspections.
• Use a range of hand and power tools to carry out repairs efficiently.
• Perform minor mechanical repairs, part replacements, and component upgrades.
• Clean and maintain machines and tools before and after use.
• Ensure all workshop areas and vehicles are kept clean and organized.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns, completing repairs within a four-hour timeframe.
• Drive and test vehicles or machinery as part of maintenance and inspection duties.
• Follow all applicable SANS (South African National Standards) when performing mechanical tasks.
Operational Support
• Assist with equipment upgrades, replacements, and maintenance to improve asset reliability.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
• National Senior Certificate (Matric).
• Relevant experience in mechanical or maintenance work will be an advantage.
• Strong understanding and practical knowledge of general maintenance tools and equipment.
