Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the Technical Assistant role is to support the technical team in maintaining the group’s facilities and equipment. This includes assisting with preventative maintenance and identifying when items or facilities need to be upgraded or replaced. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role also involves providing advice and information on maintenance issues to clients and stakeholders. This is a hands-on role requiring extensive handy work.

Job Objectives

• Assist with plant inspections and report any unsafe conditions to the Technical Manager.

• Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.

• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the maintenance area at all times.

• Identify and escalate risks requiring the Technical Manager’s attention.

• Drive to collect/deliver items and equipment; tow diesel bowser for generator refilling.

• Comply with company policies, procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.

• Participate in training sessions, safety programs, and staff meetings.

• Record defects, completed repairs, and materials used.

• Perform ad hoc duties as required.

• Attend to after-hours emergencies and be available for standby duty when needed.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric – highly beneficial

• OHS compliance or technical maintenance certifications – beneficial

Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience in Property Maintenance or a similar role

• Practical experience with:

• Electrical and mechanical technical maintenance

• Air conditioning systems

• Structural and plumbing maintenance

• Experience within shopping centres, office parks, or large complex environments – essential

Knowledge and Skills

• Valid driver’s license (code EB) – essential

• Willingness and ability to travel on short notice – essential

• Basic MS Office 365 proficiency, especially Excel – beneficial
