An apprenticeship is more than simply an opportunity to gain employment. It is a structured learning programme that combines theoretical training with practical workplace experience. For individuals who are interested in becoming qualified artisans, an apprenticeship can provide an important pathway towards developing the technical knowledge, practical ability and workplace experience required in the engineering industry.
At Jendamark Automation, the successful apprentice will be expected to participate actively in both theoretical and practical training. Apprentices will also be required to work towards specific goals while maintaining the engineering, quality and safety standards expected within the workplace.
The programme can provide valuable exposure to an engineering environment and help candidates develop skills that can be useful throughout their careers.
About Jendamark Automation
Jendamark Automation operates within the engineering and automation environment, making this an opportunity for candidates who are interested in developing their technical skills in a professional engineering workplace.
For aspiring electrical artisans, working in an engineering environment can provide valuable exposure to technical processes, workplace procedures, safety requirements and practical problem-solving.
Candidates who are serious about building a career in the electrical or engineering industry should use the apprenticeship as an opportunity to learn as much as possible, develop good workplace habits and gain practical experience.
Electrical Apprenticeship Requirements
Applicants must meet the minimum requirements specified for the apprenticeship. All applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 at the time of application.
The basic requirements and qualifications include:
• Successful completion of Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science, or Technical Mathematics and Technical Science.
• Trade theory subjects.
• An NCV Level 4 relevant qualification, or
• N2 to N6 in Electrical.
Candidates should carefully check that their qualifications meet the requirements before submitting an application.
Having additional relevant qualifications, technical skills or experience may give applicants an advantage during the selection process. Applicants are therefore encouraged to clearly highlight any relevant electrical, engineering, technical or practical experience they have gained.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful Electrical Apprentice will be required to participate in both theoretical and practical training as part of the apprenticeship programme.
Key duties and responsibilities may include:
• Completing required theoretical training modules.
• Completing required practical training modules.
• Working towards achieving the goals and requirements of the apprenticeship programme.
• Following specified engineering standards and workplace procedures.
• Maintaining the required health and safety standards at all times.
• Developing practical electrical and technical skills through workplace training.
• Participating actively in learning and development activities.
• Applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations where required.
• Demonstrating commitment to the apprenticeship programme and completing assigned training requirements.
• Working effectively with other employees, apprentices and members of the engineering team.
The apprenticeship will require commitment, discipline and a willingness to learn. Apprentices should be prepared to take instructions, ask questions when they do not understand something and continuously improve their technical knowledge and practical abilities.
Personal Requirements
Jendamark Automation is looking for candidates who can work effectively in an engineering environment and demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and teamwork.
Applicants should have:
• Good interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail.
• A results-oriented approach.
• A willingness to learn new technical skills.
• Good communication skills.
• A responsible attitude towards workplace safety.
• The ability to follow instructions and workplace procedures.
• Commitment to completing the apprenticeship programme.
Good interpersonal skills are particularly important because apprentices may be required to work alongside experienced artisans, technicians, engineers and other employees. Being able to communicate professionally, listen carefully and work cooperatively with others can contribute to a successful apprenticeship experience.
Attention to detail is also important in the electrical and engineering environment, where accuracy and compliance with safety requirements are essential.
Three-Year Apprenticeship Contract
The successful applicant will be required to sign a three-year apprenticeship contract with merSETA.
A three-year apprenticeship provides an extended period in which the apprentice can develop technical knowledge, complete required training and gain practical workplace experience.
Candidates should therefore understand that an apprenticeship requires long-term commitment. Applicants who are selected will be expected to take the training programme seriously and work towards meeting the requirements of the apprenticeship.
This opportunity may be particularly suitable for individuals who want to pursue a career as an electrician, electrical artisan or other technical professional within the engineering and automation industry.
Why Apply for an Electrical Apprenticeship?
An electrical apprenticeship can be an important starting point for someone who wants to build a career in the engineering and technical sector.
Instead of only learning from textbooks, apprentices have the opportunity to develop practical workplace skills while receiving structured theoretical training. This combination can help learners understand how electrical principles are applied in real working environments.
The experience gained during an apprenticeship can also help candidates become more familiar with workplace expectations, safety procedures, teamwork, technical problem-solving and professional conduct.
For young South Africans who have completed Grade 12 and meet the relevant electrical training requirements, opportunities such as this can provide a valuable route into the skilled trades.
