About the Instrument Technician Role
Ivanplats is currently looking for a skilled Instrument Technician to join its Processing or Engineering team. This role is suited for someone with strong technical knowledge in instrumentation and control systems, especially within mining or industrial environments.
As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, installing, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation equipment. Your work will ensure that plant systems operate efficiently, safely, and accurately.
This is a critical role that supports plant performance, automation systems, and overall production reliability.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for:
• Installing, maintaining, and repairing instrumentation and control systems
• Calibrating instruments to ensure accurate readings and performance
• Diagnosing faults and resolving issues quickly to minimise downtime
• Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance
• Assisting with commissioning of new equipment and systems
• Monitoring plant performance and identifying areas for improvement
• Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards
• Completing maintenance reports and documentation accurately
• Working closely with engineers, electricians, and plant operators
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
• Instrumentation Trade Test Certificate or relevant qualification
• National Diploma in Instrumentation or Process Control (advantageous)
Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience as an Instrument Technician
• Experience in mining, processing plants, or heavy industry preferred
• Experience with PLC systems, SCADA, and control systems is an advantage
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and diagrams
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of safety procedures and risk assessments
• Basic computer skills for reporting and system monitoring
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Willingness to work shifts, standby, or overtime when required
