About the Artisan Electrician UG Job
Ivanplats is looking for a qualified Artisan Electrician (Underground) to join its Engineering team. This role is best suited for someone with solid electrical experience in mining or heavy industry, especially underground operations.
As an Underground Electrician, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical systems and equipment. Your work will directly impact the safety, efficiency, and reliability of underground operations.
This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to:
• Install, maintain, and repair underground electrical systems and equipment
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
• Respond to breakdowns and emergency situations underground
• Conduct inspections and ensure all electrical systems meet safety standards
• Participate in risk assessments and safety meetings
• Ensure compliance with mining regulations and electrical standards
• Complete job cards and maintenance reports accurately
• Work closely with other engineering team members and supervisors
• Identify and report defects, hazards, and abnormal conditions
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
• Recognised Electrician Trade Certificate
• Relevant electrical certification for underground work
Experience:
• Proven experience as an Electrician in mining or heavy industry
• Underground (UG) experience will be a strong advantage
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and fault-finding
• Understanding of mining safety procedures and risk assessments
• Ability to work underground and in challenging conditions
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and standby when required
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Basic computer skills for reporting and maintenance systems
• A valid driver’s license (advantageous)
