Job Purpose
The purpose of the Artisan Rigger role is to perform safe and efficient rigging, lifting, installation, and mechanical support tasks within industrial operations. The incumbent ensures that all lifting activities and mechanical handling procedures are executed according to strict safety standards, engineering specifications, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Maintenance and Rigging Operations
- Support the Mechanical Supervisor in daily maintenance and operational activities
- Perform rigging, lifting, installation, and mechanical handling of equipment and machinery
- Conduct inspections and functional checks on lifting equipment and mechanical systems
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical or rigging-related faults efficiently
- Assist in planning and execution of mechanical and lifting projects
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational procedures
Safety, SHEQ and Regulatory Compliance
- Adhere to all local, national, and international mechanical and rigging safety regulations
- Follow strict lifting procedures and safety protocols at all times
- Conduct Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) observations
- Participate in toolbox talks and Green Area Meetings to promote safety awareness
- Inspect and maintain lifting and safety equipment regularly
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team and work environment
Customer Service and Operational Excellence
- Deliver high-quality rigging and mechanical support services with minimal downtime
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding lifting operations
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of job cards and maintenance documentation
- Minimise rework, defects, and operational non-conformances
- Ensure customer job card ratings are completed for defect-related tasks
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and operational reliability
Financial and Resource Management
- Assist in managing rigging tools, lifting gear, and mechanical equipment inventory
- Report damaged, missing, or faulty equipment and request replacements where required
- Support cost-effective maintenance and operational practices
- Ensure efficient use of materials, tools, and lifting resources
Team Development and Support
- Support training and mentoring of junior artisans and assistants
- Promote teamwork and a positive working environment
- Participate in skills development, safety discussions, and operational reviews
- Encourage knowledge sharing and adherence to best practices
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Rigger Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal compulsory)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in rigging or mechanical maintenance operations
- Experience in lifting operations, machinery handling, or industrial plant environments
- Knowledge of Necsa site facilities, mechanical systems, and safety equipment will be advantageous
