Necsa Group is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter and Turner Artisan to join its mechanical maintenance team in the North West region. Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide expert mechanical support by performing installations, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on plant equipment and mechanical systems. The Artisan: Fitter and Turner ensures operational continuity by diagnosing faults, implementing corrective actions, and supporting maintenance strategies that improve reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform mechanical installations, repairs, overhauls, and maintenance on plant and equipment
- Conduct inspections and functional tests to ensure operational safety and efficiency
- Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective corrective solutions
- Assist in planned maintenance schedules and breakdown response activities
- Ensure minimal downtime through fast and accurate fault resolution
Technical Support and Operations
- Support the Mechanical Supervisor or Section Head with daily maintenance tasks
- Assist in mechanical engineering projects and system improvements
- Interpret technical drawings, manuals, and maintenance specifications
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational procedures
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to all mechanical safety regulations, codes, and site procedures
- Conduct Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) observations
- Participate in toolbox talks and Green Area Meetings
- Inspect and maintain safety equipment regularly
- Report unsafe conditions, risks, or incidents immediately
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete job cards accurately and submit within required timelines
- Ensure proper recordkeeping of all maintenance activities
- Support planning and tracking systems through accurate reporting
- Ensure defect-related job card ratings are completed
Quality and Performance Standards
- Deliver high-quality workmanship with minimal rework or defects
- Reduce equipment failure recurrence through root cause analysis
- Ensure customer satisfaction through efficient and reliable maintenance service
- Maintain compliance with internal quality standards
Inventory and Workshop Support
- Assist with managing mechanical tools, spares, and equipment inventory
- Report shortages, damaged tools, or replacement requirements
- Support cost-effective maintenance practices and resource usage
Team Development and Collaboration
- Provide guidance and support to junior artisans and assistants
- Promote teamwork and a positive working environment
- Participate in skills development and knowledge sharing
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal compulsory)
- Valid Driver’s License (compulsory)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance as an artisan
- Experience in coal-fired steam generators is an added advantage
- Familiarity with industrial mechanical systems and plant environments preferred
