Fitter Job Overview
Exxaro Resources is recruiting a qualified Fitter to join its Mechanical Engineering team at Leeuwpan Coal in Delmas. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient operation of mining equipment, including conveying and cutting systems, through maintenance, repairs, and condition monitoring.

Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment and infrastructure
- Conduct condition monitoring, testing, and fault finding
- Assist the Master Fitter with diagnostics and problem-solving
- Follow planned maintenance schedules and complete tasks on time
- Support breakdown maintenance and shutdown activities
- Ensure quality control in maintenance and new installations
- Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles before use
- Plan and order parts to prevent operational delays
- Promote and adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards
- Mentor Artisan Aides and trainees to build team capability
- Report defects and unsafe conditions immediately
Minimum Requirements
Education & Trade Qualification
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 (Technical)
- N2 with relevant trade subjects
- Trade Certificate: Fitter (MQA/QCTO)
Experience
- 2-3 years of mechanical maintenance experience in mining, heavy industry, or production environments
Additional Requirements
- Valid Code B driver’s licence
- Certificate of Fitness (required)
- Psychometric assessment (required)
- Competency in MQA core and on-the-job modules
Skills and Competencies
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and mining equipment
- Ability to work under pressure and during breakdowns
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance (SHEC standards)
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to mentor and support junior staff
