Rand Water is currently looking for a qualified Electrician to join its Bulk Water Services Operations team at the Panfontein site in Rietvlei.
This permanent opportunity is ideal for a qualified Red Seal Electrician with experience in electrical maintenance, plant equipment troubleshooting, and industrial electrical systems. The successful candidate will take responsibility for electrical installations, maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on plant equipment to ensure continuous and safe operation of water treatment and distribution infrastructure.

Purpose of the Job
The primary purpose of this role is to manage and perform all electrical work on site, including new installations, routine maintenance, and breakdown repairs. The Electrician will ensure that all plant equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to maintain water supply operations.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Qualified Electrician with a recognised Trade Test (Red Seal)
• Minimum N3 / Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience
• Minimum 3 years of practical electrical maintenance experience
• 2 years of experience reading and interpreting P&I and schematic drawings
• 3 years of experience using electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, meggers, signal simulators, and pressure calibration equipment
• 2 years of experience working with transformers and high-voltage/low-voltage switchgear
• 2 years of experience working with overhead power lines
• 1 year of experience with cable jointing and terminations
• Knowledge of Maximo and SAP systems
Additional Advantages
The following qualifications or certifications will be beneficial:
• National N6 Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Wireman’s Licence (for issuing Certificates of Compliance – CoC)
• SHEMTRAC or SAMTRAC certification
• Ability to pass the Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) certificate
• Training or experience in PLCs, SCADA systems, VSDs, and medium/low voltage equipment
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
• Performing planned maintenance tasks including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules
• Investigating and repairing electrical breakdowns to ensure plant reliability and availability
• Performing standby duties when required, ensuring plant availability outside normal working hours
• Providing on-the-job training to new employees, assistants, and apprentices
• Assisting and managing contractors and external technical personnel
• Monitoring and analysing section performance through the Maintenance Planning System
• Participating in Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities
• Completing scheduled job cards, permits, defect reports, and logbooks in accordance with Rand Water procedures
• Conducting fault-finding on electrical circuits and tracing faulty cables
• Performing general electrical maintenance and ensuring good housekeeping practices
Knowledge and Technical Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge in the following areas:
• Electrical plant maintenance and troubleshooting
• High-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems
• Electrical circuit testing and diagnostic equipment
• Electrical drawings and schematics interpretation
• Industrial automation systems such as PLC and SCADA
• Maintenance planning systems and technical reporting
