Premier FMCG is currently recruiting for an Artisan Assistant at the Premier Potchefstroom Bakery. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with Matric and an N2 qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering who are looking to gain hands-on experience in a factory and food production environment.

The successful candidate will work within the maintenance department, assisting artisans and technicians with maintaining plant equipment and ensuring that machinery operates efficiently to support production.

This position provides valuable exposure to industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, and plant operations, making it a good opportunity for individuals building a career in engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing.

Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of this role is to maintain the overall effectiveness of equipment and plant machinery on site. The Artisan Assistant will help ensure that all equipment is functioning correctly, assist with repairs, and support maintenance activities to minimise downtime in the production process.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to artisans and maintenance teams

• Participating in on-the-job training to develop technical skills in the engineering and maintenance field

• Assisting with system maintenance and plant operations

• Attending to equipment breakdowns and general plant maintenance

• Supporting maintenance teams in ensuring efficient operation of machinery and equipment

• Assisting with maintenance tasks such as basic welding, grinding, and painting when required

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the Artisan Assistant position, applicants must have:

• Matric / Grade 12

• N2 Certificate or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Experience Requirements

Applicants should meet the following experience criteria:

• At least 1 year of experience working in a production factory environment

• 2 years of experience as an Artisan Assistant will be an added advantage

Required Skills and Competencies

Candidates should possess the following skills:

• Basic engineering knowledge and technical understanding

• Basic welding, grinding, and painting skills will be advantageous

• Knowledge of food safety regulations and health & safety standards in a production environment

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Accuracy and attention to detail

• Good communication skills

• Ability to make decisions and resolve technical issues

Working Conditions

The successful candidate should be willing to work under the following conditions:

• Work in a factory environment that may be hot and noisy

• Work with heavy mechanical and technical plant equipment

• Be available to work weekends, night shifts, and public holidays according to the shift schedule
