Mechanical Assistant – Global Grade 03 (Full-Time)

Position Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a Mechanical Assistant – Global Grade 03 based at Mogalakwena. The successful candidate will support artisans in diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining earthmoving equipment on customer sites and at BWE sites.
This role is ideal for candidates with strong mechanical experience in mining or heavy earthmoving environments who are looking to grow within a structured mining and engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
• Assist artisans with planned services and preventative maintenance on earthmoving equipment and components
• Diagnose machine system faults quickly and efficiently
• Perform repairs and maintenance according to supplier standards and customer requirements
• Support breakdown response to minimize equipment downtime
• Ensure repaired equipment is tested and fully operational before release
Technical Reporting & Analysis
• Compile accurate Machine Inspection Reports (MIRs)
• Prepare Technical Analysis Reports (TAs)
• Conduct detailed machine assessments and provide feedback
• Maintain accurate administrative records including labour booking, service reports, part returns, and expenses
Operational & Compliance Duties
• Maintain a professional image when representing BWE
• Ensure strict adherence to safe work practices
• Control contamination and maintain clean work areas
• Follow through to ensure quality and productivity standards are consistently achieved
• Operate supporting equipment where licensed
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Valid Driver’s License – Code 8
• Must meet Anglo criteria for driving in pit areas (Pass Dover Test)
• Medically fit and able to meet Anglo requirements for working at heights
• Operator license for supporting equipment (advantageous)
Experience
• Minimum 3 years relevant mechanical or mining experience
• Experience working on earthmoving equipment in a mining environment
Skills & Competencies
• Basic troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
• Good problem-solving abilities
• Sound interpersonal and communication skills
• Basic computer literacy
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance (PM), components, and machine systems
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
