Position Overview

The Artisan Assistant 1 (AA1) will primarily support the fabrication and manufacturing artisan with daily operational and maintenance tasks. The role also involves assisting the Builder with general plant construction and maintenance work to ensure that all buildings and infrastructure remain in safe and optimal condition.

This position is ideal for a hands-on individual who is eager to develop practical maintenance and construction skills within a manufacturing plant environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Maintenance Manager, artisans, and project teams to ensure that tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and according to company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Building Support

• Assist the Builder in the construction, repair, and maintenance of all plant buildings and structures

• Support routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and structural issues

• Assist with repair work during plant shutdown periods to ensure minimal operational downtime

• Perform general maintenance tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager

• Provide support to project teams with civil construction and plant improvement projects

• Help maintain plant infrastructure to ensure a safe and productive working environment

Fabrication and Manufacturing Assistance

• Assist artisans with fabrication and manufacturing-related duties

• Support material handling and preparation for maintenance tasks

• Use basic hand tools safely and effectively

• Ensure work areas remain clean and organized

Health, Safety, and Compliance

• Participate in safety meetings, forums, and training programmes

• Adhere strictly to company health and safety policies and procedures

• Report all safety hazards, incidents, and near-misses immediately

• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

• Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Minimum 2 years relevant working experience (recommended)

• Experience in a plant, construction, or maintenance environment will be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

• Basic hand tool operation and maintenance skills

• Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills

• Ability to work well in a team environment

• Self-motivated with initiative and drive

• Good communication skills

• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately

• Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks
