Job Overview
The Electrical Aide (B4) will report directly to the Electrician or nominee and will support mining electrical maintenance activities to ensure optimal plant reliability and equipment availability. The role involves assisting with electrical reticulation, maintenance, installations, repairs, and breakdown response in a heavy industrial mining environment.
Minimum Requirements
Education
• Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence
• Operative Course Certificate (Advantageous)
Experience
• Minimum 1 year practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial, mining, or plant environment
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Electrical Support
• Assist with maintenance of mining electrical reticulation systems
• Support modifications, installations, and repairs of electrical equipment
• Assist artisans with primary and secondary equipment maintenance
• Respond to breakdowns to restore equipment availability
• Test repaired equipment before reinstallation
Electrical Installations & Repairs
• Assist with removal, replacement, and repair of panels, fluorescent tubes, machinery, HT cables, belt drives, and straining wires
• Perform cable installation, jointing, and connection to distribution boards (underground and surface)
• Assist with motor control centers and distribution board wiring and fault-finding under supervision
• Support HT maintenance and substation equipment maintenance
• Perform lockout procedures when required
• Assist with compressor maintenance and basic fault-finding
Tools, Safety & Compliance
• Conduct mini risk assessments in work areas
• Ensure tools and equipment are clean, functional, and safely stored
• Maintain personal toolbox/tool bag in safe working condition
• Utilize tools and equipment according to SOPs
• Report defects and equipment status to Artisan or Chargehand
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
Communication & Reporting
• Conduct inspections (routine and ad-hoc)
• Provide feedback on work orders
• Communicate effectively with Supervisors, Foremen, and plant personnel
