The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for 381 Security Officer vacancies in the Free State and Northern Cape Region, based at Mangaung Maximum Correctional Centre.

Salary Structure

• CB1-1: R212 358 per annum

• CB1-2: R257 895 per annum

• CB1-3: R313 521 per annum

(Salary level will be determined by experience and qualifications)

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Matric / Grade 12 qualification

• Successful completion of one of the following:

• Correctional Science Learnership, OR

• Basic Training, OR

• Induction Training Course (ITC)

• CB1-1: No previous experience required

• CB1-2: Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience on CB1-1

• CB1-3: Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience on CB1-2

Competencies and Skills

• Computer literacy

• Firearm competency

• Good verbal and written communication skills

• Interpersonal and report-writing skills

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures

• Understanding of Minimum Security Standards for correctional centres

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

• Performing access control at correctional centres and between internal areas

• Controlling the movement of inmates, internally and externally

• Guarding inmates within correctional facilities and at external public institutions

• Conducting physical security inspections

• Controlling and managing security stores and equipment

• Operating and managing the security control room

• Ensuring offender rehabilitation through correction and human development

• Maintaining a safe, secure, and humane detention environment
