Job Purpose
The Engineering Assistant B6 will support the engineering and maintenance team by performing low-complexity, high-volume tasks in a mining plant environment. The role focuses on assisting artisans, ensuring safe workmanship, and supporting maintenance operations to minimize equipment downtime.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist artisans with mechanical and plant maintenance activities
• Perform general engineering support tasks in line with work instructions
• Maintain a safe, clean, and productive working environment
• Follow all workplace safety, emergency, and first-aid procedures
• Report equipment defects, hazards, and abnormalities to supervisors
• Operate machinery and tools according to approved SOPs
• Complete maintenance checklists, job cards, and task documentation
• Ensure availability of tools, spares, and materials
• Coordinate with engineering and operational teams
• Adhere to mining safety standards and operational controls
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric) with Numeracy and Literacy
• Physical Science (advantageous)
• Engineering Assistant Level 1 and Level 2 certificates
Experience Required
• 1 to 3 years relevant operational or engineering experience in a mining or plant environment
Technical Skills and Knowledge
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and mining plant equipment
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety procedures
• Ability to follow maintenance instructions and standard operating procedures
• Proper use and care of engineering tools and equipment
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics (advantageous)
Additional Requirements
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence
• Basic computer literacy
• Valid Certificate of Fitness
• Ability to work shifts and in an industrial mining environment
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Engineering Foreman and is graded at B6 level within the engineering department.
