PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
South African Airways Technical (SAAT) invites young, passionate South African citizens to apply for the 2026 Technical Apprenticeship / Learnership Programme. This programme is ideal for individuals who are eager to build a long-term career in aircraft maintenance and aviation technical trades.
Successful applicants will undergo structured theoretical and practical training in one of SAAT’s approved aviation trades. The programme is designed to develop highly skilled artisans who meet aviation industry and regulatory standards.
AVAILABLE TRADES
Applicants may choose two trades in order of preference:
Aircraft Welding
Welding and repairing aircraft and engine components, plasma spraying, heat treatment, and manufacturing of aircraft parts and tooling.
Aircraft Spray Painting
Corrosion prevention, repair of paint coatings, application of protective coatings, and painting of aircraft interiors and exteriors.
Aircraft Trimming
Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining aircraft interiors and survival equipment.
Aircraft Composite Structures
Manufacturing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining aircraft composite components.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Option 1: Grade 12 (Matric)
• Mathematics: Minimum 50% (Level 4)
• Physical Science: Minimum 50% (Level 4)
• English: Symbol required
OR
Option 2: N3 Certificate
• Mathematics: Minimum 50%
• Engineering Science: Minimum 50%
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Ability to read and write in English (essential)
• Basic understanding of technical or mechanical concepts (advantageous)
• Ability to follow instructions accurately
• Good verbal and written communication skills
