JDI is seeking a Junior Artisan Assistant to support Technicians with the maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery and equipment in Swellendam. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on mechanical experience who are eager to grow their technical skills in a structured workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Technician with Maintenance & Repairs
• Support servicing and routine maintenance of agricultural equipment
• Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns
• Identify potential mechanical faults and assist with basic troubleshooting
• Safely use hand tools and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks
• Perform minor mechanical adjustments and parts replacements under supervision
• Prepare machinery, tools, and equipment for service jobs
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of tools, workbenches, and work areas
Ad-Hoc Tasks & Workshop Support
• Perform ad-hoc tasks as requested by the Technician or Workshop Manager
• Assist with transporting and handling parts, tools, and equipment
• Support housekeeping, inventory checks, and basic administrative tasks
• Ensure compliance with SANS standards, company safety procedures, and health & safety regulations
• Report unsafe conditions immediately
Training & Development
• Attend internal and external training sessions as required
• Apply newly acquired technical skills in daily work
• Identify skills gaps and take initiative to improve through continuous learning
Minimum Requirements
• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
• 1–2 years’ relevant mechanical experience, preferably in an agricultural environment
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong basic mechanical and technical skills
• Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools
• Good health and safety awareness
• Customer-focused with strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Professional, organised, and good time management
• Bilingual, detail-oriented, and accurate
• Knowledge of mechanical equipment and the agricultural industry
• Understanding of customer service (JDI standards provided on the job)
