We Are Hiring an Experienced Fitter
Sappi Southern Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter to join the Engineering team at Ngodwana Mill. This role is ideal for a safety-conscious mechanical professional who is passionate about plant reliability, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement within a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.
As a Fitter, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment, directly contributing to overall equipment effectiveness and long-term plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Performing mechanical maintenance on plant equipment, including gearboxes, pumps, screens, bearings, and chain drives
• Planning and executing maintenance activities in line with maintenance notifications and planned schedules
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical faults during breakdowns to minimise downtime
• Conducting detailed daily and weekly inspections to ensure optimal plant performance
• Providing standby support for after-hours and weekend breakdowns when required
• Reporting all unsafe acts, conditions, and deviations to the Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman)
• Actively participating in Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) programmes to promote a strong safety culture
• Requesting, withdrawing, and managing spare parts through SAP
• Maintaining and updating SAP Master Data, ensuring accurate work orders and maintenance records
• Adhering to all safety, quality, and engineering standards within the mill
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
• A recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter or Fitter and Turner
• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science, or an N3 Engineering qualification
• Minimum of 2 years post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy engineering or industrial environment (preferred)
• A valid driver’s licence
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced plant environment
