Glencore, a global leader in diversified natural resource mining, is seeking a responsible and safety-focused Assistant (Miner) to join the mining team at Eastern Chrome Mines – Thorncliffe Mine in Steelpoort, Limpopo.
The successful candidate will support underground mining operations, particularly in drilling, charging, blasting preparation, and explosive handling, while ensuring full compliance with mining safety standards and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Charge the required number of blast holes/meters in accordance with instructions from the Team Leader or Miner
• Handle, transport, and control explosives and detonators strictly in line with mine standards and legal requirements
• Assist with offloading explosives from underground vehicles into approved explosives storage drums
• Ensure full compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) regulations and site-specific procedures
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, and security at all times
• Support safe and efficient underground blasting preparation activities
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and deviations to the Miner or Supervisor immediately
• Participate in safety talks, risk assessments, and workplace inspections
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 10 / Grade 12 (as per mine standard)
• Relevant Blasting Assistant / Miner’s Assistant training or certification
