Artisan Assistant – Heavy Earthmoving Machinery (Field Service)
Komatsu South Africa is pleased to announce an exciting Artisan Assistant vacancy within its White River Field Service Operations. This opportunity is ideal for motivated individuals who are passionate about Heavy Earthmoving Machinery (HEMM) and are looking to grow their career within a global leader in mining and construction equipment.
The successful candidate will support qualified artisans in workshop and field service operations, contributing to the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of Komatsu machines, while adhering to strict health and safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications
• Grade 12 (Matric)
Experience Requirements
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in a general workshop or technical environment (advantageous)
• Basic exposure to machine repairs, tools, and workshop practices
Knowledge & Certification Requirements
• Forklift, crane, or welding certificates (advantageous)
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence (essential)
• Valid Code 14 driver’s licence (advantageous)
• Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (SHE)
• Strong interest and passion for Heavy Earthmoving Equipment (HEMM)
• Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with machine and component assembly and disassembly
• Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and workshop housekeeping
• Assist qualified artisans with mechanical and service-related tasks
• Operate Komatsu machines under supervision
• Drive and operate a Komatsu service vehicle when required
• Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures during machine and component movement
• Use and understand basic workshop tools and their functions
• Work overtime, standby duties, and travel when required
• Maintain productivity while working under pressure
• Contribute positively as a team player in a field service environment
