Overview
BME, a division of Omnia, in partnership with Valterra Platinum Mine (Mogalakwena), is launching a community skills development programme aimed at empowering unemployed youth within the Mogalakwena Municipality. This initiative focuses on providing practical mining skills and hands-on experience to eligible young people in the host communities around Valterra Platinum Mine.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to start a career in the mining and blasting field and gain valuable industry experience.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Matric / Grade 12 with:
• English (40% minimum)
• Mathematics (40% minimum)
• Physical Science (40% minimum)
Experience
• No experience required – training will be provided.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Conduct risk assessments and complete safe-work declarations with the Blaster before entering any work area.
• Assist the Blaster with preparation of the blasting/charge-up area according to statutory, legal, client, and BME requirements.
• Inspect the blast site with the Blaster to identify the target block and plan the blasting operations.
• Mark and barricade the working area as required by the client.
• Map and verify drilled holes to ensure correct placement.
• Measure the depth of blast holes and confirm drilling accuracy within required parameters.
• Report and address any deviations by communicating with mine staff, the drill contractor, or the Foreman.
• Collect relevant blasting accessories as instructed by the Blaster.
• Place all detonators and boosters at the hole collar for priming.
• Assist with priming blast holes by inserting detonators into boosters and lowering primers as per the blast plan—under supervision.
