Position Purpose
The Boilermaker Apprenticeship at Transnet is designed to prepare candidates to operate independently and effectively as qualified artisans. The program equips apprentices with the skills to plan, manufacture, assemble, inspect, commission, modify, and repair components and installations. Apprentices will apply practical knowledge across various contexts, gaining hands-on experience in the trade.
Key Responsibilities / Position Outputs
As an apprentice boilermaker, you will be trained to:
• Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials for trade activities.
• Use hand, power, and precision measuring tools safely and efficiently.
• Install, assemble, fit, and connect electrical equipment and control systems.
• Test, inspect, commission, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, assemblies, and installations.
• Apply theoretical knowledge in practical, real-world trade scenarios.
Qualifications & Requirements

Option 1 – N2 Level:
• Mathematics (Pure)
• Engineering Science
• Plating & Structural Drawing
• Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
• Metal Worker’s Theory
• Plater’s Theory
Option 2 – N3 to N6 Level:
• Mathematics (Pure)
• Engineering Science
• Plating & Structural Drawing

• Mechanotechnology
Option 3 – NCV Level 4:
• Fundamentals: First Additional Language (English), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation
