Overview
The eThekwini Municipality is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed youth to apply for the Artisan Development Programme 2025 in the trade of Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration.
This training programme is designed to help young people gain essential technical skills, hands-on experience, and industry-recognized qualifications to become certified artisans. The programme runs for up to three years, combining theoretical classroom learning at an accredited institution with practical, on-site training within eThekwini facilities.
Upon successful completion, apprentices will undergo a trade test to qualify as Artisans in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this Artisan Development Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Educational Requirements:
• Minimum N2 Certificate (including relevant trade theory subject); OR
• Technical/Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science/Engineering Science, and trade theory; OR
• N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (S or N stream) related to the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration trade.
2. General Requirements:
• Must be an eThekwini Resident (proof of residence required)
• Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
• Must be unemployed
• Must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years
• Must have a genuine passion for the air-conditioning and refrigeration field
• Must not have participated in a similar apprenticeship programme before
3. Selection Process:
• Applicants will undergo verbal, written, and medical assessments as part of the recruitment process.
Programme Details
• Duration: Up to 3 years
• Training Includes:
• Theoretical learning at an accredited technical institution
• Practical, on-site experience with municipal air-conditioning and refrigeration systems
• Certification: Trade Test (Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration) upon completion
• Accreditation: Regulated by SETA/QCTO and the National Artisan Moderating Body (NAMB)
