Overview
The eThekwini Municipality invites applications from unemployed youth for the Artisan Development Programme 2025 in the trades of Millwright and Carpentry.
This initiative offers practical and theoretical training opportunities to help participants gain the necessary skills and qualifications to become certified artisans.
Successful candidates will undergo structured training over a period of up to three years, combining classroom-based theoretical instruction with hands-on practical experience in municipal workshops and facilities. Upon completion, apprentices will take a formal trade test to qualify as Artisans in their chosen field.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered:
1. Educational Requirements:
• Minimum N2 Certificate including the relevant trade theory subject; OR
• Technical/Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science/Engineering Science, and trade theory; OR
• Relevant N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (S or N stream) directly related to Millwright or Carpentry.
2. Additional Requirements:
• Must be an eThekwini Resident (proof of residence required)
• Must be a South African citizen with a valid ID
• Must be unemployed
• Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years
• Must have a passion for the applied trade
• Must not have participated in a similar apprenticeship programme before
3. Selection Process:
• Candidates will undergo verbal, written, and medical assessments as part of the recruitment process.
Programme Details
• Duration: Up to 3 years
• Training Includes:
• Theoretical training at a recognized and accredited institution
• Practical, on-site experience within eThekwini Municipality departments
• Certification: Trade Test in Millwright or Carpentry upon successful completion
• Accreditation: As per SETA/QCTO and National Artisan Moderating Body (NAMB) standards
