About Mamatwan Mine
The Mamatwan Mine is part of South32’s South Africa Manganese operations, located in the Kalahari Basin in the Northern Cape. This region holds around 80% of the world’s manganese reserves. The open-cut Mamatwan Mine has been in operation for more than 50 years and remains a key part of South32’s success in the mining industry.

About the Role
As an Artisan Assistant at Mamatwan Mine, you’ll play an important role in helping artisans with the maintenance and repair of mobile machinery. You’ll make sure all work is done safely and in line with South32’s commitment to Zero Harm.
This is a full-time, permanent position that requires attention to detail, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist artisans and electricians during planned maintenance and inspections.
• Use basic hand tools correctly and safely.
• Help with machinery repairs and breakdowns as needed.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards at all times.
• Report unsafe behaviour, conditions, or incidents immediately.
• Take part in workplace incident investigations.
• Conduct risk assessments before starting any task and identify hazards.
• Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and in good condition.
• Build positive working relationships with team members and contractors.
About You
Experience and Skills
• At least two years of experience in maintenance work.
• Knowledge of surface mining principles will be an advantage.
• Experience with electrical maintenance will be beneficial.
Qualifications
• Grade 12 with Mathematics (required for external applicants).
• Grade 10 (accepted for internal applicants).
• Technical N2 or N3 certificate will be an advantage.
• A valid driver’s licence is required.
