Job Summary

Optix Africa is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Assistant to support our Product Development Support Engineer. This role is key in assisting the team with technical support, ensuring smooth product operation, and contributing to innovation and improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with the Product Development Department to troubleshoot issues, test solutions, and deliver exceptional service to internal customers.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or N3 in Electrical Engineering discipline (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as an Engineering Technician or similar role.
• Basic technical knowledge in aftermarket devices (dash cameras, fatigue monitoring systems, etc.) is advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good verbal and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other MS programs.
• Innovative mindset and willingness to learn new systems quickly.
• Basic understanding of Optix hardware/software solutions preferred.
• Basic understanding of electronics will be an advantage.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to internal customers via email, phone, and MS Teams.
• Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting technical product issues.
• Collaborate with the product development team to escalate and resolve complex issues.
• Support product training sessions and department functions for internal teams and new employees.
• Participate in testing of new product releases to identify potential issues.
• Collect and clean data for product comparisons, POCs, and trials.
• Conduct hardware and software device testing.
• Monitor performance of running POCs and trials.
• Assist in vehicle incident investigations.
• Support the design and maintenance of new/current test jigs.
• Contribute to system improvements and process innovation.
• Conduct research to stay updated with market trends.
