Rand Water is seeking two Workshop Assistants – Mechanical (A2 Operators) to join its Zuikerbosch site. The successful candidates will ensure that the allocated plant is maintained to a safe and reliable standard as required by Rand Water’s operational guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
• Education: Grade 12 or N3 Certificate in Fitting and Turning
• Experience: Minimum 1 year relevant experience in fitting and turning
• License: Valid Code B driver’s license and ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 test
Primary Duties
Planned Maintenance
• Perform daily, monthly, and annual scheduled maintenance tasks
• Investigate and repair all mechanical breakdowns
• Work overtime when required
• Maintain high work standards and ensure legal & safety compliance
• Plan tasks effectively to ensure availability of materials, tools, assistants, transport, and equipment
Project Coordination
• Provide input on site requirements
• Conduct regular site inspections
• Attend site visits to ensure smooth operations
Maintenance Planning System
• Report and analyze section performance data
• Participate in formal Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) programs
• Engage in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions
• Contribute to shutdown planning
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge
• Operation of field mechanical equipment
• Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
• Basics of water purification and treatment processes
Skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong administrative and analytical skills
• Ability to perform fault finding and problem-solving
• Proficiency in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
