Based at the Centurion Sandown Workshop, apprentices receive hands-on training and mentorship from experienced technicians, gaining practical skills in diesel vehicle maintenance and repair.
Key Responsibilities of the Diesel Mechanic Apprentice
Maintenance and Repairs
• Perform authorized repairs according to job cards and DTSA prescribed flat rate times.
• Apply technical skills efficiently and seek guidance from supervisors when required.
Customer Service
• Handle customer vehicles and property with care, following professional service standards.
• Report potential issues and delays to Foreman and Service Advisors.
• Ensure quality workmanship in line with DTSA standards.
Administration and Cost Control
• Complete job cards accurately and conduct fault diagnosis effectively.
• Follow DTSA warranty, maintenance, and dealer procedures.
• Record material usage and minimize wastage of oils, fluids, and other materials.
Health, Safety, and Housekeeping
• Use tools and equipment correctly, maintaining good housekeeping practices.
• Comply with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) and statutory regulations.
• Understand company policies and follow standard operating procedures.
Personal Development
• Take responsibility for learning and skill development through assessment and reflection.
• Follow the MERSETA apprenticeship program and submit assessment portfolios on time.
Required Qualifications
• Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science, and English, Technical Matric, or N2 in Mechanical Engineering/Diesel Motor Mechanic.
• Basic computer literacy and technical knowledge of diesel systems.
