About the Opportunity
The City of Ekurhuleni is seeking applications from unemployed residents to join as a Mechanical Assistant in the Real Estate and Development Planning department. This six-month temporary role offers hands-on mechanical workshop experience, contributing to the maintenance and servicing of municipal vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 10 / N2 Mechanical Engineering qualification – Essential.
• South African citizen.
• Resident of the City of Ekurhuleni – Must specify ward number.
• Unemployed at the time of application.
• Basic mechanical background in a workshop environment.
• Physically fit and willing to perform manual labour.
• Valid driver’s licence – Advantageous.
• Not currently participating in the CoE Job Creation Programme.
• Willingness to learn and take instructions from supervisors.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist mechanics and artisans with mechanical repairs, servicing, and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, pumps, and tools.
• Prepare work areas by cleaning and setting out tools, equipment, and parts.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the workshop and surrounding work areas.
• Use hand tools and basic mechanical equipment safely.
• Transport tools, parts, and equipment as required.
• Assist with the inspection and testing of mechanical systems.
• Report damaged tools, faulty equipment, or safety hazards to supervisors or artisans.
• Follow all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and wear prescribed PPE.
• Complete basic job cards or task checklists when required.
• Assist with the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
Important Notes
• Individuals currently participating in other job creation projects are not eligible until a six-month cooling-off period has passed since their last participation.
• Candidates may be required to provide proof of NQF level for their qualifications.
• If no feedback is received within six (6) weeks after the closing date, the application should be considered unsuccessful.
