Job Description
Ensure that all manufacturing equipment is serviced and maintained according to specifications and in line with good engineering practice. Must have knowledge of conveyor belts, wire meshes, modular belts, bearings, and be able to use mechanical tools such as spanners, hammers, taps, hacksaws, grease guns, allen keys, pipe wrenches, bearing pulleys, heaters, as well as disassemble and assemble machines.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 or N3 qualification
• NCV Technical qualifications
• 2 – 5 years’ experience on production line machines as an operator
• Knowledge and skill in operating production lines
• Basic problem-solving skills
• Good listening skills
• Ability to work within a team
• Knowledge of Food Safety and Hygiene requirements
• Basic knowledge of different types of lubricants
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements
• Good communication skills
• Attention to detail
Duties & Responsibilities
• Repair equipment failures to restore functionality
• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment performs at optimum output
• Conduct root cause analysis to prevent re-occurrence of failures
• Complete job cards timeously and capture all relevant information
• Carry out daily inspections on machines and report any defects noticed
• Strip production machinery for cleaning, sanitising, and greasing when required
• Work graveyard shifts when needed
• Assist with production line start-ups and preparations on Sunday night
• Ensure all equipment is safe before work and all safety equipment is functional at all times
• Decide which parts need replacement and identify any additional work required
• Recommend additional activities required to improve performance
• Assist production team with machine start-ups and set-ups every morning
• Organise and plan maintenance activities based on machinery repair needs
• Cover electrical parts before cleaning takes place after production
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements, relevant legislation, and company policies when carrying out maintenance
• Check oil levels according to specifications and follow lubrication schedules
• Adhere to Quality and Food Safety requirements
• Ensure ongoing implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality and Food Safety system through systematic adherence to food safety requirements as defined in the Food Safety RACI Matrix and relevant SOPs
