Job Overview
Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd is offering an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Aide (B4) within the Plant Engineering division. The mine is a wholly owned subsidiary of Assore Limited and is recognised as a world-class producer of chrome ore in South Africa.
The mine is located in Limpopo Province, approximately 60km from Lydenburg and 40km from Burgersfort. This role is ideal for candidates looking to build practical experience in electrical maintenance within the mining and heavy industrial environment.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Electrician or nominated supervisor and will assist with maintenance, installations, repairs, and inspections on mining electrical systems and equipment to ensure maximum plant reliability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance Support
- Assist with maintenance of mining electrical reticulation systems
- Support electrical modifications, installations, and repair work
- Assist with fault finding and breakdown repairs on plant equipment
- Help maintain production equipment reactively and according to maintenance schedules
- Assist with installation and repair of:
- Electrical panels
- Fluorescent tubes
- HT cables
- Belt drives
- Straining wires
- Power turning systems
- Substation equipment
- Compressors and cabling systems
Cable and Equipment Work
- Assist with cable installation, jointing, and cable connections
- Build cable joints under supervision
- Connect and disconnect cables safely
- Perform lockout procedures when required
- Support maintenance on underground and surface electrical distribution boards
- Assist with motor control centre wiring and fault finding under supervision
Inspections and Safety
- Conduct mini risk assessments in work areas
- Perform regular and ad-hoc inspections on tools and equipment
- Ensure work is completed according to SOPs and company standards
- Report defects and equipment issues to Artisan or Chargehand
- Ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained, and safely stored after use
General Duties
- Work independently or under supervision depending on task requirements
- Assist artisans with plant and mining maintenance activities
- Maintain clean and safe work areas at all times
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, foremen, and mine personnel
- Attend to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime
Minimum Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate
- Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s License
- Operative Course Certificate will be advantageous
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year practical trade-related experience
- Experience in a heavy industrial, mining, or plant environment preferred
Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills
- Basic electrical maintenance and repair knowledge
- Understanding of mining or plant equipment operations
- Ability to use tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Knowledge of SOPs and workplace safety standards
- Basic fault-finding and inspection skills
