About the Boilermaker Job Opportunity
Valterra Platinum is currently looking for a motivated and reliable Boilermaker (Plater) to join their Engineering team in Thabazimbi. This role is ideal for someone who has recently qualified or has a few years of experience and is looking to grow within the mining industry.
As a Boilermaker, you will be responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing machinery and equipment on-site. Your work will play an important role in ensuring that operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently every day.
This is a hands-on role where you will be expected to solve problems, respond to breakdowns, and work closely with a team to keep equipment in top condition.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, your daily duties will include:
• Attending and participating in safety meetings to ensure a safe working environment
• Conducting and contributing to risk assessments before starting tasks
• Responding quickly to breakdowns and emergency maintenance situations
• Ensuring all required materials, tools, and spare parts are available before starting work
• Maintaining a high standard of workmanship at all times
• Completing job cards and recording all maintenance work carried out
• Conducting legal inspections and documenting results accurately
• Supervising and guiding junior team members, apprentices, and assistants
• Providing on-the-job training and sharing knowledge with team members
• Reporting unsafe behaviour, incidents, and injuries immediately
• Communicating equipment faults and abnormalities to supervisors
• Working closely with other departments to support overall operations
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
• Grade 12 (Matric) or a relevant Technical Trade N2 qualification
• A recognised Boilermaker Trade Certificate
• Certification proving competency as a Boilermaker
Experience:
• 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar boilermaker or engineering role
• Previous experience in the mining industry will be an added advantage
• Experience with work management systems (OM) is beneficial but not required
Skills and Competencies
Valterra Platinum is looking for candidates who are:
• Familiar with risk assessment and safety procedures
• Willing and able to work standby shifts and overtime when required
• Able to use basic computer systems for reporting and job tracking
• In possession of a valid driver’s license
• Strong in problem-solving and able to make decisions under pressure
• Team players who can also work independently when needed
