Job Purpose

The Artisan Assistant ensures compliance with safety procedures and supports operational excellence through reliable maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Workshop Support
- Assist with maintenance, repair, and fabrication tasks within the workshop environment
- Support artisans with breakdown repairs and planned maintenance activities
- Perform basic maintenance tasks according to skill level and supervision
- Ensure proper handling, movement, and transportation of equipment in the workplace
Hydraulics and Equipment Assistance
- Support work on hydraulic systems and related equipment
- Assist in fault identification and maintenance of hydraulic components
- Ensure correct selection and use of tools for specific maintenance tasks
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
Safety and Compliance
- Obtain authorization as an “authorised workman” according to lock-out procedures

Environmental Responsibility
- Handle, identify, sort, and dispose of waste according to correct waste streams

- Obtain licenses for mobile equipment used within the mill
- Support general maintenance activities across the plant

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Science
- Valid driver’s license
- Trade Test qualification (advantageous but not required)
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in hydraulics and maintenance
