Midvaal Local Municipality is inviting applications for a Fire Fighter Internship Programme based in Meyerton. Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this Fire Fighter Internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
- Fire Fighter 1 & 2 certification, including Hazmat Awareness and Operations (or equivalent)
- First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Assistance (BAA) qualification
- Valid Code C Driver’s License
- Must be medically and physically fit to perform strenuous operational duties
- Ability to swim
- No phobias that could hinder performance (e.g. claustrophobia, acrophobia)
- Basic knowledge or experience in fire and rescue services will be advantageous
- Strong work ethic, discipline, and willingness to learn
- Previous internship experience (minimum 3 months) will be an added advantage
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Fire Fighter Intern, you will be responsible for assisting with various operational and support tasks, including:
- Responding to daily instructions and operational duties assigned by the Station Officer
- Ensuring consistent attendance and punctuality in the workplace
- Conducting routine testing, inspection, and maintenance of firefighting vehicles and equipment
- Cleaning and maintaining fire station equipment and vehicles
- Reporting faults, damages, or malfunctions to the relevant supervisor
- Assisting senior fire fighters during emergency incidents and rescue operations
- Adhering strictly to command structures during emergency situations
- Participating in firefighting activities, including:
- Grass and wildland fires
- Structural fires
- Protecting property, lives, and firefighting equipment
- Performing control room duties when required
- Carrying out general rescue operations
- Completing any additional tasks assigned by supervisors
