Mechanical Fitter – Rainbow Chicken

Rainbow Chicken Ltd is currently recruiting a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join the team at the Hammarsdale Chicken Processing Plant (P2). This opportunity is ideal for an experienced artisan with strong mechanical maintenance skills in a food production or poultry processing environment.

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining all mechanical equipment within the processing plant to ensure maximum uptime, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric or NTC 3 (Relevant Trade)

• Trade Test Certificate – Mechanical Fitter

Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience post qualification

• Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime

• Standby and call-out availability required

• Machining and welding experience advantageous

• Experience with evisceration or poultry processing machines advantageous

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong ability to work independently and under pressure

• Project coordination skills

• Knowledge of poultry processing equipment (advantageous)

• Ability to conduct electrical breakdowns (advantageous)

• Machining skills (advantageous)

• Physically fit and able to work in cold environments (below -40°C)

• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding ability

• Good understanding of OHS regulations and ISO standards

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Service, repair, and maintain all mechanical equipment

• Conduct daily start-up and shutdown procedures of plant machinery

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance

• Conduct daily inspections and implement proactive remedial actions

• Handle mechanical breakdowns and standby duties

• Maintain refrigeration cooling equipment

• Upgrade equipment to improve performance and reduce maintenance costs

• Ensure compliance with OHS Act requirements

• Adhere to ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 standards

• Conduct safety inspections and compile reports

• Implement continuous improvement initiatives

• Manage planned maintenance programs to reduce downtime

• Plan and schedule maintenance tasks effectively
