About Mamatwan Mine
The Mamatwan Mine forms part of South32’s South Africa Manganese operations, located in the manganese-rich Kalahari Basin of the Northern Cape. The region is home to approximately 80% of the world’s manganese reserves, making it one of the most important mining areas globally. The open-cut Mamatwan Mine has been in operation for over 50 years.
Key Responsibilities – Artisan Assistant
As an Artisan Assistant, you will support qualified artisans in ensuring safe and efficient plant operations while maintaining South32’s Zero Harm safety culture.
Your duties will include:
• Assisting artisans with planned maintenance and inspections
• Supporting plant maintenance and breakdown repairs
• Adhering to health, safety, and housekeeping standards
• Conducting pre-use and routine equipment inspections
• Identifying hazards and performing risk assessments before tasks
• Reporting unsafe conditions, incidents, and equipment defects
• Participating in workplace incident investigations
• Ensuring tools and equipment are kept clean and in good condition
