Job Overview – Fitter Aide (TMM)
Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, a wholly owned subsidiary of Assore Limited, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Fitter Aide (TMM) (B4). This opportunity is ideal for entry-level candidates seeking hands-on experience in a heavy mining and plant engineering environment.
The mine is a world-class chrome ore producer located approximately 60 km from Lydenburg and 40 km from Burgersfort in Limpopo Province.
The successful candidate will report to a Fitter or designated nominee.
Minimum Educational Requirements
• Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
• Valid Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence
• Advantageous: Operative Course Certificate
Experience Requirements
• Advantageous: At least 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial, mining, or plant environment
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of mining equipment to support effective mine operations
• Assist with maintenance, modifications, and repairs on mining equipment
• Conduct mini risk assessments within the work area and maintain high housekeeping standards
• Clean, inspect, and store tools and equipment after use
• Work independently and under supervision in line with set standards and procedures
• Perform basic mechanical tasks such as removing and replacing hydraulic hoses, greasing machines, and replacing shanks
• Assist artisans with major maintenance tasks including engines, cylinders, gearboxes, pumps, tyres, and pulleys
• Adhere to planned maintenance schedules and respond to breakdowns to maintain production targets
• Ensure safe and optimal use of equipment and machinery
• Record defects and tool conditions and report to the Chargehand or Foreman
• Operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment when required
• Perform lock-out procedures in accordance with SOPs
• Support reactive and scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment availability and reliability
Safety and Compliance
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
• Comply with all mine safety standards, SOPs, and risk control procedures
