About the Role
Premier Foods is looking for a skilled and reliable Artisan Electrician to join the Maintenance Department at our Premier Candy site in Isando, Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the efficiency of all plant equipment while providing vital electrical support to ensure smooth production operations.
This role requires a hands-on professional who can identify potential machine reliability issues before they arise, lead technical problem-solving processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain the effectiveness of plant equipment and systems, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability.
• Identify and address potential machine reliability issues to prevent downtime.
• Lead problem-solving processes and contribute improvement ideas to the maintenance team leader.
• Record and analyse breakdown trends using the maintenance system to support equipment upgrades or replacements.
• Support and participate in ad hoc projects such as machine refurbishment, installation, and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) by maintaining proper process documentation.
• Provide on-the-job coaching and mentoring to Handymen and Apprentices as part of Premier’s leadership development culture.
• Supervise and guide Technical Operators to ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
• Matric (Grade 12)
• N4 qualification in a relevant electrical field
• Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)
Experience and Skills Required
• 3–5 years’ experience as an Artisan Electrician in a related trade
• At least 3 years’ experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment
• Proven experience with high-speed continuous operations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to coach and guide junior technical staff
