Purpose of the Job
The Artisan Diesel Mechanic Gr 2 will inspect, maintain, and repair diesel-powered machinery to ensure it meets operational standards and production targets. The role involves technical diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and compliance with Sasol’s safety and quality procedures.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform inspections and ensure machinery meets safety and quality standards.
• Conduct maintenance and repair of diesel machines and systems.
• Understand and use plant maintenance documentation and planning systems.
• Participate in daily maintenance meetings and report on progress.
• Support production goals by ensuring all repairs are completed on time.
• Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and risk assessments.
• Maintain good housekeeping and follow waste disposal procedures.
• Share knowledge and mentor junior artisans or learners.
• Lead or assist team tasks and provide accurate feedback to supervisors.
• Participate in quarterly performance appraisals and identify personal training needs.
• Ensure compliance with Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO, etc.).
• Provide accurate maintenance history for equipment renewals and critical spares.
Minimum Qualifications
• National Senior Certificate or N3 Certificate with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science
• Occupational Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic)
• Diesel Flameproofing certification
• 8 Gasses certification
• Competent A certificate
• Valid Driver’s License
Experience
• Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience as a Diesel Mechanic in a plant, mine, or industrial setting.
