The successful candidate will report to the Shift Overseer or nominee.

Minimum Educational Requirements

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
• Certificate: Blasting for Scheduled Mines or National Certificate: Hard Rock Underground
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence
• Advantageous: Competent A & B Certificate
• Advantageous: Blasting Assistant Certificate

Experience

• Minimum 2 years’ trackless mining experience
• Advantageous: 2 years additional mining experience

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure effective operation of all blasting and mining activities during a shift
• Supervise team activities while ensuring safe practices and continuous workplace inspections
• Plan and monitor resources to achieve operational targets
• Conduct gas testing, ventilation checks, and evacuations when required
• Inspect and ensure workplace safety (hanging wall, sidewalls, face, watering down)
• Oversee temporary and permanent support installation to required standards
• Identify and deal with misfires, hazardous conditions, and unsafe practices
• Conduct pre-use inspections on equipment and ensure correct PPE usage
• Prepare and oversee drilling and roof bolt installation to standards
• Handle explosives safely: charging, testing, storing, and disposal according to procedures
• Maintain compliance with blasting procedures and shift handovers
• Report and investigate incidents/accidents, implement preventative measures
• Ensure proper housekeeping and equipment maintenance
