Ilima Coal Company (Pty) Ltd is offering Artisan Learnership opportunities in 2025. This exciting programme is designed for motivated individuals who are passionate about developing their technical skills in the mining industry. Successful candidates will gain practical workplace exposure, hands-on training, and mentorship in preparation for a career in the mining and engineering sector.
Available Learnerships
Ilima Coal Company has learnership opportunities in the following trades:
• Electrician
• Fitting & Machining
These learnerships will provide learners with valuable experience in coal mining operations, ensuring they develop the technical knowledge and skills required to excel in their chosen trades.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Artisan Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Completed N3 qualification in the relevant trade (Electrical or Fitting & Machining)
• South African citizenship
• Willingness to commit to a structured learnership programme
• Strong work ethic, problem-solving ability, and eagerness to learn
Learnership Agreement
Successful candidates will be required to sign a two-year learnership agreement with Ilima Coal Company. The programme officially commences on 26 September 2025 and will run until 2027.
About Ilima Coal Company
Ilima Coal Mine (also known as Pembani Coal Carolina) is an opencast and underground coal mining operation located near Carolina in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. The mine is owned by the Pretorius Group of Companies (PGC).
Situated just 3 km east of Carolina, immediately north of the R38, Ilima Coal Mine has been an important player in the local coal mining sector. In 2016, PGC acquired full ownership of the mine from the previous owner, Pembani Coal Carolina (PCC).
The mine holds a significant mining right, covering a large area that will be developed in phases over a 30-year life span. With both opencast and underground operations, Ilima Coal Company provides opportunities for skills development and sustainable employment in the mining industry.
