Redpath South Africa is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Fitter Assistant to join our mining operations in Northam, Limpopo. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting Fitters in mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installations within a mining environment.
Minimum Requirements
• Matric certificate or equivalent qualification
• Competent B Certificate (pre-requisite)
• Competent A Certificate (advantageous)
• Medically fit to work in a mining environment
• Valid First Aid Certificate
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
• Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting Fitters in mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation tasks
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic understanding of electrical systems, safe work procedures, and electrical codes
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
• Experience working at heights and in confined or elevated spaces
• Familiarity with hand tools and power tools
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition; assist with maintenance and troubleshooting
• Assist Fitters in diagnosing problems, replacing parts, and repairing machinery
• Adhere to all safety protocols and promptly report hazards or unsafe conditions
• Carry out tasks as directed by Fitters, including material handling, cleaning work areas, and maintaining safe work zones
• Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment as required
• Cut, bend, and shape metal and other materials for specific tasks
