Opportunity Overview

South Deep Gold Mine is offering a Learner Miner Learnership to aspiring employees and/or prospective applicants from our host communities who wish to pursue a career in mining.

This formal learnership programme combines theoretical training and practical, work-based learning to prepare learners for the mining industry and increase employability upon completion.

Eligibility for Host Community Applicants

You must meet one of the following criteria:

1. Residency: Be a resident of one of our host communities:

• Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, or Jachtfontein.

2. Education Location: Have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) at a school situated in one of the above-mentioned host communities.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or N3 qualification (with two languages passed)

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mining operation

• Medically fit for the position and environment (risk-based medical exam at Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre)

• Pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test and other relevant suitability assessments

Key Competencies & Responsibilities

• Comply with all health and safety regulations applicable on the mine

• Undergo technical training as prescribed by MQA/DMRE during the programme

• Maintain consistent performance as per scheduled evaluation cycles

• Take accountability for personal career development and engage in feedback sessions with HRD and technical teams

• Uphold company policies, conditions of employment, and code of conduct

• Foster teamwork and act as an effective team member

• Demonstrate proficiency in English (oral and written)
