Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (Pty) Ltd, is a dynamic role player in the integrated broiler industry, with an abattoir located in Reitz, in the North Eastern Free State. Purpose of the Role
To assist a qualified artisan with the maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment in alignment with predefined work objectives, as per agreed standard operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent
• Knowledge & experience in medium to heavy haulage engines, especially Cummins (Freightliner & International)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role within a trucks workshop
• Proven experience in a technical or maintenance environment
• Familiarity with agricultural machinery: Skidsteers, Loaders, Combilifts, and Tractors
• Basic welding skills
• Competency in mechanical and electrical fault-finding and repair
• Ability to read and write English clearly (essential for accurate fault/repair records)
• Thorough understanding of health and safety requirements
• Valid Code 8 Driving Licence (Code 14 is an advantage)
• Willingness to work long hours, including weekends when required
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist at the workshop and during breakdowns with the following:
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on various agricultural machinery
• Diagnose and repair faults on yellow metal machines
• Diagnose and repair faults on washing trailers
• Conduct welding and minor fabrication tasks
• Assist with both electrical and mechanical repairs
• Ensure all machinery operates efficiently and safely
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and adhere to safety protocols
