Job Opportunity: Mechanical Assistant – County Fair Processing Plant (Fisantekraal)
Astral, one of South Africa’s leading integrated poultry producers, is looking for a Mechanical Assistant to join our dedicated maintenance team at the County Fair Processing Plant in Fisantekraal.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical background who is eager to contribute to a high-performing, safety-focused team.
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Assistant will support the maintenance team by ensuring that all mechanical functions in the processing plant run efficiently, safely, and in line with Occupational Health and Safety Act standards. Your contribution will be key to minimizing downtime and maintaining peak production performance.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
• N2 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
Experience:
• Previous mechanical maintenance experience in a poultry processing plant or rendering environment will be a strong advantage
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine maintenance on processing equipment
• Respond to unplanned breakdowns to reduce downtime
• Assist with the installation and maintenance of equipment – including weekend and after-hours work
• Comply with 20 Keys, HACCP, and general housekeeping procedures
Candidate Requirements
• Fluent in English and at least one other official South African language
• Computer literate (basic MS Office or CMMS systems)
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and public holidays
• Must have reliable transport
• Strong team player with a commitment to health and safety standards
